There are strict and special rules and regulations concerning pet importation in South Korea.
Dogs and cats are allowed without any quarantine period, if responsible person gives a health certificate issued by the Quarantine Authority or a Veterinarian imported from the following regions only: Australia, Chinese Taipei, Cyprus, Fiji, Guam, Iceland, Ireland (Rep. of), Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, United Kingdom and the U.S.A. (Hawaii and Samoa American).
All live animals and animal products entering Korea must be accompanied by valid certificates issued by the government in the country of origin. You are urged to visit local veterinarian 6 weeks before your pet departures about an immunisation for your pet to guard against a very common disease found in quarantine ("Kennel Cough").
An owner must declare all imported animals and animal products upon entry to the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service, where they have to be inspected. Cloven-hoofed animals and their products that are shipped from import-restricted territories will be sent back or destroyed.
The Republic of Korea has a 10-day quarantine period for the majority of arriving pets. To import your animal, you must have: Certificate of excess baggage (bill of lading for animals arriving by air freight); Copy of health certificate; Copy of owner's military orders; proof of identification; power of attorney if you are acting as the proprietor’s representative.
Rabies vaccinations have to be over 1 month old to stay at the quarantine facilities (i.e. if your pet had a rabies shot 10 days before your arrival at quarantine centre, your pet will be required to stay there for 20 days). You are allowed to visit the pet during this period. A lot of owners take food to their pets since some may not like the food given to them while in quarantine.
