Pet Import Requirements in Mozambique

All animals entering Mozambique must have the Import Permit. An owner can obtain it himself or a pet shipper can do this for him. For obtaining import permit owners have to indicate the current address including district and country where the pet lives prior to import; the point of departure and the approximate transportation dates, as well as the address in Mozambique where the pet will live and copies of the inoculation booklets. In order to get the Import Permit, an owner or his representative need valid rabies and canine (feline) inoculations as well as an International Health Certificate, signed by a government veterinarian of the country of origin. The EU vaccination booklet is not a valid health certificate.

When transporting pets via South Africa to SADC country, including Mozambique, owners will need to obtain Transit Permit, the pets need to be micro-chipped and dogs need a blood test done within 1 month prior to departure. This can be done in Maputo. There is no quarantine requirement when pets are in transit. Quarantine space must be reserved in advance.
