Pet Import Requirements in Madagascar

Import authorisation to be obtained before departure from the "Directeur du Service de l'Elevage et de la Peche Maritime de la Rep. Democratique Malgache." Conditions of importation are specified in such an authorisation.

Veterinary certificate ( Certificat Sanitaire et d'origine") issued by the licensed veterinary surgeon of country of origin less than 15 days before traveling and issued by the regional Director of the Veterinary Services. It must provide information on the proprietor and complete description of the pet; it must specify the pet is in good health and that the establishment and the province of origin have been free from any infectious disease for a time indicated in the authorisation.

For dogs over 3 months and cats over 6 months old, the certificate must further indicate they have been vaccinated against rabies (more than 1 month and less than 1 year previously for cats, and for dogs between 3 and 6 months; more than 1 month and less than 3 years previously for dogs over 6 months).

Sanitary inspection on entry. Quarantine sometimes may be imposed.
