Pet Import Requirements in Guatemala

Cats and dogs must be accompanied by veterinarian health certificate licensed by the government. If they arrive from rabies infected areas the health certificate must state that pets have been vaccinated against rabies less than 1 year and 30 days at the latest prior to arrival to Guatemala. Also dogs must be supplemented with a vaccination certificate against parvovirus. Only pedigreed pets are free of duty.

Certificate of pedigree must be legalized by the Guatemalan Consulate at origin. The certificate expires 30 days from the date of its issue. The pet must enter Guatemala at least 5 days before the expiration date. The non-pedigreed dogs, cats and other pets are subject to customs duties. The amount of duty to be paid for animals will be determined at the point of entry.

Imported pets have to have subcutaneous (under the skin) microchip implant that meets ISOP specification.

Government certification that the vet's export documents and certificates are in order for travel. The International Health Certificate must be confirmed by both the USDA and the Guatemalan Embassy.
