Pet Import Requirements in France

France accepts animals which come under the Pets Travel Scheme (PETS). Cats and dogs must have an anti-rabies vaccination certificate. French residents returning to France may need to get a Health Certificate from an international vet if staying in a foreign country for more than 5 days. Other animals must be examined by a health official on arrival.

Birds: 2 birds of the Psittaciformes (parrots) order and 10 birds of other small species allowed per family. It is necessary to hold a health certificate, executed by a licensed veterinarian in the country of export within 10 days before the arrival and showing that the animal is free of evidence of disease.

Prohibited:
- the following breeds recognized as dangerous breeds are prohibited: any dog of the type Staffordshire terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Pitbulls, Mastiff, Tosa. Breeds classed as guard dogs with a pedigree can be imported into France: Staffordshire terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, and Rottweiler.

- puppies and kittens less than 3 months old. Maximum 3 animals are allowed and only one of which may be a puppy or a kitten if animals more than 3 months old. If animals arriving from the U.S.A.: max. 5 animals per family can be brought. Every animal must be at least 3 months old or otherwise travel with the mother.
