Pet Import Requirements in Ethiopia

Cats and dogs must be accompanied by veterinarian good health certificate issued at point of origin. Pets require an import permit.

For diplomats:
1) The Embassy in Ethiopia will inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by letter, enclosing copies of
relevant documents for the pet’s importation.

2) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will inform the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, who will inform the Customs Authority, who will provide the necessary document for the pet to be imported.

3) It is recommended to begin the process of approval 1-1/2 to 2 months prior to importation.

Required documents: Birth certificate, Health certificate and copy of passport.
