Pet Import Requirements in Belgium

Pet Import Regulations: Cats and dogs are subject to special regulations (EC) No. 998/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council. Five pet animals per person are allowed to be imported into Belgium. Dogs and cats under the age of 7-weeks old are prohibited unless the kittens or puppies are not yet weaned and traveling with their mother. Animals remaining in Belgium longer than 6 months must be registered with the ABIEC (Belgian Association for Identification and Registration of Dogs). A Belgian veterinarian can assist the owner with the registration. All pets must have an electronic identification microchip.

Parrots and parakeets: birds of the lory, parrot, budgerigar, ara, cockatoo and other species of the family psittacidae. The importation, transit and re-importation of live birds of these species are allowed at the rate of two per family or person travelling alone. This is on condition that the bird(s) are accompanied by a signed statement no older than 2 months issued by the veterinary service of the country from which the birds are imported, certifying that they have been submitted for examination by a member of the family or by the person travelling alone and have been found free of fowl plaque, Newcastle disease, cholera, psittacosis, pullorum disease and Pacheco's disease.

Required documents:
